Renewed concerns about police response to shoplifting spark calls for retailers to do more
Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger said the force had changed the way it was responding to shoplifting. Worries police are not responding to reports of shoplifting have been sounded amid renewed calls for big retailers to do more. Cases of shoplifting increased in Cleveland by 16% last year - up by 1,222 crimes from 2017 levels. But questions about how the police reacted were raised at the latest Cleveland Police and Crime Panel.
