Passenger accounts describe scenes of alarm, with one individual reportedly seen wielding a large knife while other passengers sought refuge, some even hiding in lavatories. The exact number of injured persons and the severity of their injuries have not been publicly confirmed.

Police response

Upon receiving the emergency call, BTP officers boarded the train and secured the scene. They are working alongside Cambridgeshire Police to identify victims, check CCTV/rail‑footage, interview witnesses and determine motive. Rail services through Huntingdon have been disrupted while investigations continue.

The suspects remain in custody under arrest. BTP has appealed for anyone on the train or nearby with mobile recordings, CCTV or dash‑cam footage to come forward. Appropriate forensic processes are underway.

Travel advice & public safety note

Travellers on routes to or through Huntingdon should expect significant delays or cancellations and should check with their train operator.

If you were travelling on the train at the time, or at the station shortly before or after, and witnessed unusual behaviour, you are urged to contact BTP or Cambridgeshire Constabulary as a witness.

As always: if you see a person acting suspiciously on a train (especially with a weapon), alert rail staff, press the emergency alarm and keep safe.

Context & concerns

While the motive remains unclear, the incident raises concerns about knife‑crime occurring in transit spaces and the vulnerability of passengers in enclosed train carriages. It underscores the ongoing challenge of ensuring rail‑safety and rapid law‑enforcement response in mobile environments.

What happens next

Police will determine the exact number and condition of victims, the suspects’ identities, and whether the incident was pre‑meditated, random or associated with broader criminal networks.

Forensic and witness evidence will be crucial to build a case for prosecution.

Rail operators and BTP may review security protocols, carriage staffing, CCTV coverage and emergency‑alert procedures in light of this incident.
