Man Dies Following Assault Inside East Finchley Shop as Police Launch Murder Investigation

The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man who was seriously assaulted inside a shop in East Finchley, north London.

The victim has been named as Paul Heyfron, 53, of East Finchley, who died in hospital on Sunday, 12 July 2026, almost two weeks after the alleged assault.

Police were first called by the London Ambulance Service at 10:06 pm on Monday, 30 June, after reports that a man had been assaulted inside a retail premises on Brook Walk, East Finchley. Mr Heyfron was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remained until his death.

Following confirmation of his death, detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command upgraded the investigation from a serious assault to murder.

Paul Heyfron's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

Investigation Continues

At the time of publication, no arrests have been made and detectives are continuing to examine CCTV footage, speak to witnesses and carry out forensic enquiries.

Detective Inspector Jon Moseling, the senior investigating officer leading the investigation, said officers' thoughts remain with Mr Heyfron's family and friends during what is an extremely difficult time. He also appealed for anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area around Brook Walk on the evening of 30 June to contact police.
